SUICIDE FACTOR : EI OR IQ?

EI  What is EI? SUICIDE DEATHS IN MALAYSIA

Case 1 A young man , age 22 , a Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) final year student committted suicide by falling to his death from an apartment in Sungai Dua, moments after posting an apology to his family members on Facebook. His family and friends were puzzled over his death but it was learnt that he could have been upset over his latest examination results. Before his suicide attempt, he had called his family members. He also had earlier sent his housemate an SMS, asking him to settle some personal matters for him. Case 2 A young woman, age 27 , took her own life when she could no longer bear the loss of her fiance who was slashed to death by three parang-wielding men on the eve of Deepavali at her home in Johor. Her fiance was warded at the hospital's intensive care unit but died three days later. She felt so dejected by his death that she hanged herself. Why did my son, daughter, friend, uncle, grampa, grandma etc attempt suicide? This is one never ending question which many find hard to get a conclusive answer.  Over the years medical experts, physiologists, councellors etc have come up with a list of general reasons  as to why people attempt suicide. GLOBAL SUICIDE RATE

The rate of people committing suicide has increased to 60%, over the decades worldwide.   According to World Health Organisation's (WHO) report, almost one million people die from suicide globally, which is 16 per 100,000;equivalent to one death every 45 seconds.In the earlier times, suicide rates have been highest among the male elderly.But, in recent years,rates among the young have been increasing steadily to such an extent that now they are the group at highest risk in a third of countries.This phenomena is sweeping through both developed and developing countries. *The information contained in this post is for general educational purposes only.I do not in any way warranty on accuracy, completeness, functionality, usefulness or other assurances to information contained on this post or blog.

SUICIDE RATE IN MALAYSIA

In recent years, Malaysia has been experiencing a very sharp rise in suicide cases. Two people commit suicide in Malaysia daily.Authorities believe the rate could be higher with many undetermined deaths. According to the National Suicide Registry Malaysia (NSRM) estimation, about 425 people committed suicide between the month of January and August in the year 2010. An average of 60 poeple are taking their lives per month (including undetermined deaths). It is also alarming that more men than women had taken their own lives by a ratio of 3:1. Malaysia's suicide rate was estimated at 30 per 100,000 people in the year 2011. The general trend points to the 29-39 age group making up the highest number of suicides in Malaysia. According to NSRM-  those from the Chinese community topped the numbers with 47.5% of the 328 cases recorded in 2009, followed by Malays (21.3%), Indians (13.4%) and those from Sabah and Sarawak (3.4%) The above mentioned figure is not conclusive as ma
