SUICIDE DEATHS IN MALAYSIA

Case 1

A young man ,age 22, a Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) final year student committted suicide by falling to his death from an apartment in Sungai Dua, moments after posting an apology to his family members on Facebook.

His family and friends were puzzled over his death but it was learnt that he could have been upset over his latest examination results. Before his suicide attempt, he had called his family members. He also had earlier sent his housemate an SMS, asking him to settle some personal matters for him.

Case 2

A young woman, age 27, took her own life when she could no longer bear the loss of her fiance who was slashed to death by three parang-wielding men on the eve of Deepavali at her home in Johor.

Her fiance was warded at the hospital's intensive care unit but died three days later. She felt so dejected by his death that she hanged herself.

Case 3

A teenager, age 18, killed himself by consuming pesticide. It is believed that he was not very happy with his SPM results.He had failed several subjects, although he did quite well in the trial examinations. 

Case 4

A woman,age 39, suffering from depression found dead at the foot of a condominium block in Gurney Drive, Penang. It was believed that she had fallen from the 12th floor of the building. It is learnt that she suffered from depression and had previously attempted to commit suicide.



Case 5

A teenager, age 17, took her life by falling backwards from the second floor of her school. Few days before that, she had posted on facebook about wanting to take her own life.She had lamented on her Facebook of a failed relationship and broken promises while reiterating her desire to take her own life.

Case 6

A young man, age 22, decided to take his life by jumping from a high rise building in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. He jumped from the 14th floor of the building. He took his life after his girlfriend of four months left him.He had posted a farewell status on his Facebook page together with a teary photo of himself.

The status at 11.15pm read “Count Down For 45 Mins…What should I do in this 45 mins?” 
Minutes later, up to 204 Facebook members “liked” his suicidal status post on his Facebook wall, but sadly no one stopped him or alerted his family on his suicidal intentions.

Case 7

A student, age 18, fell to his death from the fourth floor of his school's building moments after attending a counselling session after a female student made a complain that he had deliberately bumped into her.He died on the spot from multiple injuries. The male student does not have any disciplinary problem at school.

Case 8

A grandma, age 80, jumped from the corridor on the third floor of her apartment building. Before the incident, she had an heated argument with her son and daughter in law in their house. During the argument, she allegedly threw a knife which landed on her 3-year old granddaughter, who was sleeping nearby. The child was seriously injured on her head.Seeing the injuries, she panicked and ran out of their house.

Case 9

A teenage girl, age 17,found hanged from a baby cradle hanger at a bakery.Police found the girl's body leaning against a wall with the hanger on her neck and there was no signs of struggle.

Case 10

An adult male, age 43, hanged himself due to family problems. Prior to his death, he had confided with his wife that he felt disappointed with himself because he could not take care of the family.The family is very poor (hardcore poor).The couple have five children aged aged between two and twelve.

Case 11

An adult male, age 33, found lying motionless in a hotel room. He is believed to have committed suicide. A hotel worker broke open the door after knocking and getting no response and smelling smoke coming from inside the room.The worker found the man dead and some burnt charcoal in the room.

Case 12

An adult male, age 40, took his life by hanging himself on a tree. He had attempted suicide twice before, but failed because he was noticed by his family members.His brother believes it was stress which had caused him to committ suicide.

Case 13

A woman, age 64, was found hanging from a curtain rail at a window of a flat. She was living with her son at the flat. It was believed that she had an argument with her son some days ago before she committed suicide. Her body was discovered by her son's friend.

Case 14

A young boy, age 12, hanged himself using his shoelaces (one metre long) at his home. He was apparently upset when he was not able visit his grandfather.He had asked his father to send him to his grandfather's house so that he could spend time with his granfather during the school holidays. However, his father was not able to send due to his busy work schedule.

Case 15

An adult male, age 38, hanged himself from a tree on his wedding day. His body was found by passers-by who later alerted the police.Family members were puzzled as to why he chose to commit suicide on his wedding day.

Case 16

An adult male, age 59, hanged himself with his belt at the gate of a woman's house. It is believed that the man had feelings for the woman who is 51 years old and they had known each other for quite some time. He took his life due to frustration when the woman would not return his feelings for her.

Case 17

A young male, age 21, found hanged from a window grille of his rented house. He was pursuing a Diploma In Management and he was in his final semester. He called his mother to infrom her that he could not go back for holidays because he had to finish his many assignments.His mother said that he was happy and in his usual self the time he called.She does not understand why he took his life.


Case 18

A young girl, age 12, found hanged at her home. She was still alive when her family found but later died at the hospital. According to her father, she had been very disappointed with her UPSR results. She was confident of scoring at least 4A's but she only managed to get 4B's,2C's and 1D.

Case 19

An adult male, age 51, took his own life when he failed to settle his RM12,500 debt to the loan sharks.He left a suicide note saying that he had only borrowed RM9000 from the loan sharks but was asked to repay twice the amount.He said that he was assaulted by them and took away his taxi. The loan sharks are also taxi drivers.

Case 20

A teenage boy, age 13, hanged himself using a rope tied to a railing after being scolded by his father. His father scolded him for going on a joy ride with his friends and coming home late. The boy suffers from asthma. His body was found by his mother in the bathroom.


* All the above mentioned cases are true suicide cases which can be found in the local dailies. Names and places and other information have been omitted as a sign of respect to the deceased and immediate family members.These are just a few reported cases, it is believed many suicide cases go undetected. The information contained in this post is for general educational purposes only.

  1. Suicide are due to complicated reasons. It is the only exit for any reasons for the victims. The source could even more complicated & i believe that should be multiple complications added to trigger off suicide.
    Depression are to be blamed but brain chemicals played a major role in it. End of it, there shouldn't be anything to be blame of. What is done is done !

  2. Anything to be blamed? suicide by almost 40% were in fact a result of continued abuse by 'certain' somebody'. Make police report if somebody bully you. Dont keep quiet about it.

SUICIDE - WHY PEOPLE ATTEMPT SUICIDE...?

Why did my son, daughter, friend, uncle, grampa, grandma etc attempt suicide? This is one never ending question which many find hard to get a conclusive answer.  Over the years medical experts, physiologists, councellors etc have come up with a list of general reasons  as to why people attempt suicide.
